The reason for the recall is due to certain ingredients possibly containing low levels of pentobarbital. T<strong>his is a lethal drug most commonly used to euthanize dogs, cats, and horses.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The J.M. Smucker Company is initiating a voluntary recall that includes 4 of their brands. Gravy Train, Kibbles \u2018n Bits, Skippy, and Ol\u2019 Roy for 17 specific products. All of these products have been added to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safepettreats.com\">Safe Pet Treats app<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1650 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/safepettreats.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Smuckers_2018_recall_All_products.jpg\" alt=\"Smucker's 2018 pet food recall\" width=\"600\" height=\"1446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/safepettreats.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Smuckers_2018_recall_All_products.jpg 600w, https:\/\/safepettreats.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Smuckers_2018_recall_All_products-104x250.jpg 104w, https:\/\/safepettreats.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Smuckers_2018_recall_All_products-124x300.jpg 124w, https:\/\/safepettreats.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Smuckers_2018_recall_All_products-425x1024.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The following is from a letter sent to retailers:<br \/>\n<em>The J.M. Smucker Company is initiating a voluntary withdrawal of a limited quantity of Gravy Train\u00ae, Kibbles \u2018N Bits\u00ae, and Skippy\u00ae Wet Dog Food products after learning specific SKUs did not meet our specifications because a minor ingredient may contain low levels of pentobarbital. This is not a threat to pet safety. This commitment to quality has long been demonstrated by our comprehensive quality assurance policies and procedures, which are designed to provide consumers with the quality products they expect. Earlier this week, we were made aware of WJLA\u2019s claims related to nine cans of Gravy Train\u00ae wet dog food. Since we learned of this information, we launched and are conducting a thorough investigation, including working closely with our suppliers, to determine the accuracy of these results and the methodology used. While we are confident in the safety of our products, should additional actions be required, we will communicate that quickly to consumers and our retail partners. We are a company that loves pets and understand the responsibility we have in providing high-quality food for the pets our consumers love.
