The J.M. Smucker Co. announced a limited voluntary recall of two lots of their Meow Mix\u00ae Original Choice Dry Cat Food due to potential\u00a0Salmonella\u00a0<\/em>contamination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impacted products were sold at select Walmart stores in Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming. No other Meow Mix products are impacted by this recall.

The recalled product is Meow Mix\u00ae Original Choice Dry Cat Food in 30 lb bags with UPC 829274520997.
Only the following two lot codes are impacted:
– Lot Code: 1081804 & Best By Date: 9\/14\/2022
– Lot Code: 1082804 & Best By Date: 9\/15\/2022

This recall has been added to the\u00a0Safe Pet Treats app<\/a>.\u00a0 Available on iTunes and Google Play.

The Company has received no reports of pet illness or adverse reaction and has issued this recall out of an abundance of caution. This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the US Food and Drug Administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If consumers have products matching the following description in their possession, Smucker\u2019s asks them to stop feeding the product to their cats and dispose of it immediately.

From the FDA:
Salmonella<\/em>\u00a0can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healthy people infected with Salmonella<\/em> should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella <\/em>can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pets with Salmonella <\/em>infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
